About
JS Osteopaths is run by James Smith, an osteopath based at Cleobury Chiropractic on the High Street in Cleobury Mortimer. James has been registered with the General Osteopathic Council since 2015 and has over 10 years of experience.
He came to osteopathy with two kinds of experience that inform his work. He has competed in Ironman triathlons, fell running and ultra-distance running, and before retraining he ran and managed large manufacturing sites. He says this means he understands the body both at peak performance and under the strain of ordinary working life.
The sporting side shows in what he offers. James provides rehabilitation and strength and conditioning programmes for athletes, and has worked with cyclists, runners, swimmers, gymnasts, golfers, horse riders and wheelchair tennis players, as well as musicians. He also writes strength plans for people who want to stay resilient as they get older. Alongside osteopathy he offers medical acupuncture and shockwave therapy, and has trained in the Niel-Asher technique for frozen shoulder.
JS Osteopaths sees adults, pregnant women and children aged five and above. A parent or guardian must attend appointments for patients aged 16 or under. James explains that techniques can be adapted to individual preferences, including for patients who would rather avoid joint manipulation involving clicks, or deep massage. The practice also aims to accommodate communication, sensory and other appointment needs where possible.
A first appointment involves discussing your medical history and symptoms, followed by a physical examination and, with consent, treatment where appropriate. James explains his findings and proposed plan, which may include exercises or self-management advice, and can refer you elsewhere if osteopathy is unlikely to help.
Appointments are available on weekday evenings and early on Wednesday mornings, which James says is to make treatment easier to fit around work. Initial and follow-up appointments each cost £52, lasting 45 to 60 minutes and 30 to 45 minutes respectively. For children aged 5 to 13 the fees are £45 and £40. The practice is listed as having disabled access.
