About
Hugh Ruxton Osteopathy Plus is based at the Smithfield Centre in Bridgnorth. Hugh qualified from the British School of Osteopathy in 1986 and established his Bridgnorth practice in 1988, bringing around 40 years of experience to his work.
Acupuncture has been part of that work for most of those years. Hugh studied Traditional Chinese Acupuncture for three years at the British College of Acupuncture, qualified in 1993 and has combined the two therapies ever since. Hugh Ruxton Osteopathy Plus offers them together with exercise prescription, so a treatment plan can draw on whichever suits the patient.
His long experience has led him towards movement as the centre of treatment. Hugh has continued to study, including approaches to long-term pain and to functional movement, and describes his method as pairing hands-on therapy with a movement programme built around the individual. A keen runner, swimmer and cyclist himself, he starts at whatever level the patient is at. The examples he gives range from someone completing a first half marathon after injury to a 75-year-old returning to golf after a fall.
If you are not sure whether your problem is suitable for treatment, the practice offers a free 15-minute video consultation to talk it through first.
At a first visit Hugh takes a full case history, covering your complaint, work, hobbies and general medical history. The examination that follows is carried out with your full consent and can be stopped at any point. He then explains his findings, the treatment options and how many sessions you are likely to need.
A first appointment lasts 60 minutes and costs £55. Standard appointments are 40 minutes and cost £45. Hugh Ruxton Osteopathy Plus will deal directly with private medical insurers if you give your policy and authorisation numbers when booking.
The practice opens at 8.30am on weekdays and closes at 6.30pm on Mondays and 7pm from Tuesday to Friday. You can book online, by phone or by email. Hugh is registered with the General Osteopathic Council.
