About
Hales Osteopathic Practice is a multi-disciplinary practice in Market Drayton, set up in 1995 by its principal osteopath, Janine Lees. Janine graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 1990 and has over 35 years of experience, having worked as an associate in London and Stoke-on-Trent and run her own practice in London Docklands before moving to Shropshire.
Teaching runs through the osteopathy team. Janine is a Fellow of the Sutherland Cranial College of Osteopathy, has taught cranial osteopathy to undergraduate students at the College of Osteopaths, Staffordshire University, and mentors the practice’s associate osteopaths. She treats babies, children and adults using traditional and cranial techniques, with a particular interest in chronic conditions and why symptoms have developed when they have. Associate Ian Clark has lectured on the undergraduate osteopathy programme at Staffordshire University and puts emphasis on patient education, so you understand your condition and can manage it yourself. Kathryn Riley, who graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 2024, combines structural and cranial techniques and provides gentle care for babies and children.
Hales Osteopathic Practice treats people of all ages, from babies to the elderly, including during pregnancy; its youngest patient was a baby born six weeks early. A parent or guardian must attend for patients under 16. Homeopath Sue Baker runs a clinic on Wednesdays and five element acupuncturist Julia Ugrinic on Tuesdays, and the practice also offers counselling and psychotherapy, with Janine referring patients to the other therapists when that would help.
At a first appointment of around 40 minutes, the osteopath takes a detailed case history, examines you, explains your condition and estimates how many treatments you will need. With your consent, and if appropriate, a short treatment follows. If osteopathy is not suitable or you need further investigations, you will be referred to your GP with a letter.
The osteopaths are registered with most major health insurers. Hales Osteopathic Practice is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. There is 30-minute on-street parking outside, drop-off points at each end of the walkway and a car park 50 metres away, and the building has a stairlift. All three osteopaths are registered with the General Osteopathic Council.
