About
Burwarton Osteopathic and Sports Injury Clinic is run by osteopath Simon Thurgood. Simon graduated from the British School of Osteopathy in 1990 and has over 35 years of experience.
For 30 of those years he ran his own clinic in Palmers Green, North London, working alongside a private GP and a physiotherapist. For 17 years he also taught at the British School of Osteopathy, helping undergraduate students with their clinical studies. That teaching background may appeal to anyone who wants their problem explained clearly, and Simon says he believes understanding your injury is the key to managing it.
His experience shapes how he treats. Simon says three decades have shown him that the same injury can often be treated in different ways with the same result, so he chooses the approach to suit the individual and their age. He begins by listening: to why you have come, and to your medical history, general health, leisure activities and daily routine. He then discusses what he has found and agrees a treatment plan with you, with an eye to keeping it cost-effective.
Treatment at Burwarton Osteopathic and Sports Injury Clinic is hands-on, using massage, manipulation and exercises, with ultrasound, interferential therapy, shockwave therapy and acupuncture for particular injuries. Simon is also clear about limits: he does not treat rheumatoid arthritis, which he considers best managed with medication.
The problems he lists include back and neck pain, whiplash, headaches, sports injuries, trapped nerves, disc injuries, repetitive strain, frozen shoulder and osteoarthritis.
If you would like to talk a problem through before booking, Simon will call you back. Both the initial consultation, which lasts up to 45 minutes and includes treatment, and 30-minute follow-ups cost £50. The clinic is open seven days a week from 9am to 7pm and is registered with major health insurers including Bupa, PPP and Simplyhealth.
Simon is registered with the General Osteopathic Council.
